Statement of Center for Individual Freedom
in Memory of Guy Vander Jagt
With great sadness, the Center for Individual Freedom bids farewell to Guy Vander Jagt, who died on Friday, June 22, 2007.
A native of Michigan, Mr. Vander Jagt represented the state's 9th District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1966 until 1992, when he returned to private law practice. He was a respected authority on tax and trade policies, an author, a frequent guest on national television and radio programs, an inspirational orator and fundraiser extraordinaire. Mr. Vander Jagt traveled extensively throughout his career, meeting with heads of state, prime ministers, presidents, trade ministers and business leaders around the world. He was awarded a knighthood by Queen Beatrice of the Netherlands in 1986. Though he both talked with crowds and walked with kings, Guy Vander Jagt never lost the common touch.
Friend, mentor, orator, gentleman and statesman, former Congressman Vander Jagt graced us with his presence as Secretary/Treasurer of the Center's Board of Directors for many years. He shall be missed by each and every one who knew him.
