{"id":4403,"date":"2010-03-25T12:25:43","date_gmt":"2010-03-25T17:25:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cfif.org\/v\/freedom_line_blog\/?p=4403"},"modified":"2010-03-25T14:19:58","modified_gmt":"2010-03-25T19:19:58","slug":"who-knew-nancy-pelosi-was-a-peter-drucker-acolyte","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cfif.org\/v\/freedom_line_blog\/4403\/who-knew-nancy-pelosi-was-a-peter-drucker-acolyte\/","title":{"rendered":"Who Knew Nancy Pelosi Was a Peter Drucker Acolyte?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Probably not even the Speaker herself.\u00a0 But that doesn\u2019t change the fact that her managing of Obamacare mirrors the characteristics of effective leaders Drucker identifies in his classic, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Effective-Executive-Peter-F-Drucker\/dp\/0887306128 \" target=\"_blank\">The Effective Executive<\/a>.\u00a0 There are eight points Drucker sees in every effective executive.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>(1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They asked, \u201cWhat needs to be done?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>(2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They asked, \u201cWhat is right for the enterprise?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>(3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They developed action plans.<\/p>\n<p>(4)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They took responsibility for decisions.<\/p>\n<p>(5)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They took responsibility for communicating.<\/p>\n<p>(6)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They were focused on opportunities rather than problems.<\/p>\n<p>(7)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They ran productive meetings.<\/p>\n<p>(8)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They thought and said \u201cwe\u201d rather than \u201cI.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I think most observers would agree that Pelosi nailed numbers 3-8, and number 1; especially with her members in Congress.\u00a0 Was anyone certain she wouldn\u2019t pass the bill?\u00a0 If I had to pick a flaw it would be failure to comply with number 2, the only normative criteria on the list.\u00a0 It isn\u2019t right for the American enterprise and its constitutional structure to ram a bill through Congress by using tricks and gimmicks because doing so destroys people\u2019s confidence that we are a nation of rules, not (wo)men.\u00a0 But as we see with Democrats like Pelosi, the only thing that matters is \u201cwinning\u201d \u2013 even if it means corrupting government in the process.<\/p>\n<p>For that, Dr. Drucker would no doubt be appalled.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Probably not even the Speaker herself.\u00a0 But that doesn\u2019t change the fact that her managing of Obamacare mirrors the characteristics of effective leaders Drucker identifies in his classic, The Effective Executive.\u00a0 There are eight points Drucker sees in every effective executive.
