Today, a White House report brought more news from the Government War on the American Diet<\/a>.\u00a0 The First Lady, who has made fighting childhood obesity a signature project, discussed<\/a> the findings of the report.\u00a0 Despite administration protestations that they would rely on \u201cbully pulpit\u201d pressure when working with the food industry, suggestions for new federal regulations are being discussed.<\/p>\n

The Task Force on Childhood Obesity<\/a>, which released the report, is the muscle behind Mrs. Obama\u2019s otherwise toothless awareness campaign.\u00a0 The working group, comprised of the Secretaries of Health and Human Services, Agriculture, Interior and Education, as well as senior White House staff, has several regulatory designs in mind.\u00a0 Just like the Santa Clara Co., California ban on \u201cHappy Meal\u201d toys, the task force recommends that popular media characters only be used to market healthy food.\u00a0 Coming to a McDonald\u2019s near you, The Ironman Veggie Platter<\/em>! <\/em>As CBS News reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u201cIf voluntary efforts fail to limit marketing of less healthy products to young viewers, the task force suggests the FCC should consider new rules on commercials in children’s programming. It also challenges food retailers to stop using in-store displays to sell unhealthy food items to children.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This type of persuasion<\/em> is akin to a robber pointing his gun at you through his coat pocket.\u00a0\u00a0 The robber says, \u201cGive me your money,\u201d but implicit is, \u201cor else I\u2019ll shoot!\u201d\u00a0 When it comes to government, the \u201cgive me your money\u201d option is always on the table.\u00a0 The report also calls for an analysis of sales taxes on unhealthy food.<\/p>\n

This is just another example of the European-style paternalistic state the Obamas have in mind.\u00a0 Never mind freedom of choice, they\u2019ll choose for us because Father-Government knows best.\u00a0 Cass Sunstein, Obama\u2019s Regulatory Czar, believes government can nudge<\/em> the people to make the right decisions for themselves.\u00a0 But those who wield the power of government know full well if the people don\u2019t budge, they can be coerced.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
