Image of the Day: "Bidenomics" Crushes Consumer Confidence

Consumer spending accounts for approximately two-thirds of the U.S. economy, so Joe Biden's crushing impact on consumer confidence helps resolve his apologists' confusion over Biden's economic disapproval.  After inheriting an economy rebounding from the Covid shock, Biden's policies quickly drove consumer confidence back downward, where it continues to stagnate.  No wonder he finds himself in such electoral hot water.

WASHINGTON, D.C.  In a welcome example of Congressional leadership, Representative Tim Walberg (R – Minnesota) and Andrew Clyde (R – Georgia) are sponsoring H.R. 4468, the Choice in Automobile Retail Sales (CARS) Act of 2023.  The bill, which will protect American consumers’ freedom of choice in their automobile purchases nationwide, is expected to receive a vote before the U.S. House of Representatives this week.

In response, Center for Individual Freedom (CFIF) Senior Vice President of Legal and Public Affairs Timothy Lee issued the following statement in full support of the CARS Act:

“Earlier this year, the Biden Administration’s activist Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) once again abused its authority by proposing a rule entitled the ‘Multi-Pollutant Emissions Standards for Model Year 2027 and Lter Light-Duty Vehicles.’  The EPA’s purpose is obvious:  Impose draconian vehicle emission standards in order to force Americans to adopt electric vehicles (EVs) that they do not want by the year 2032.

“In response to that egregious overreach and intrusion into working Americans’ preferences, the CARS Act would stop the Biden EPA in its tracks and instead protect consumers’ right to choose the automobiles that they prefer and that they can better afford.

“More specifically, the CARS Act would prohibit finalization, implementation and enforcement of the EPA’s proposed new regulation.  The bill would also prohibit the administration from exploiting the Clean Air Act to impose vehicle technology mandates or limit new automobile availability based on engine types, force the EPA to update and modify any regulation that limits new car availability based upon engine type and interrupt the agency’s radical effort to impose the costly ‘Green New Deal’ by regulatory fiat.

“As Congressman Walberg rightly notes, ‘The Biden Administration cannot continue to create regulations that limit consumer choice, hamper mobility, make vehicles more expensive for families and cede America’s leadership and jobs to China,’ adding that, ‘Hardworking Americans have already experienced months of runaway inflation and high energy costs, and these efforts will only further increase the financial burden on Americans who cannot afford to purchase electric vehicles.’

“CFIF applauds his leadership alongside Representative Clyde, and we urge Congress to pass the CARS Act without delay.”

CFIF is a constitutional and free-market advocacy organization with over 300,000 supporters and activists nationwide.
