So-Called "Railway Safety Act" Constitutes a Political Handout to Big Labor That Does Nothing to Improve Safety At All

America as we know it was built largely upon and because of our rail industry, and today it remains a pillar of our economy.

Unfortunately, a destructive proposal before Congress misleadingly named the "Railway Safety Act" (RSA), part of broader surface transportation reauthorization, threatens great harm to our railroads.

Simply put, the bill has nothing to do with improving safety, but has a lot to do with advancing the political agenda of Big Labor.  At a moment when inflation burdens American families and fragile supply chains remain vulnerable to disruption, the last thing our economy or rail sector need is another costly federal mandate imposed upon one of the nation’s most important transportation sectors.

As an initial matter, as noted by The Wall Street Journal, the…[more]

On the Overreach and Abuse of Power at the Federal Trade Commission:

"Abuse of power. Document destruction. Ethics concerns. Hiring games. Staff mismanagement. Possible foreign collusion. These are serious accusations against a traditionally bipartisan federal agency that has seemingly lost its way. In early June, the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Accountability announced an investigation into the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) leadership. The U.S. House Judiciary Committee, the FTC's own Office of Inspector General, and others are already reviewing the agency. The FTC's comprehensive mismanagement presents, as the saying goes, a target-rich environment.

"As oversight begins in earnest, Congress should focus its investigation on the FTC activities that inflict the most damage on our economy, undermine the rule of law, and corrode the trust of the FTC as an institution. Most importantly, Congress should evaluate whether to use its budgetary authority to mitigate the FTC's excesses. A short sample of the FTC's overreaches include:"

On Circumstances Surrounding Hunter Biden's Plea Deal:

"An IRS document from early 2022 states Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss' office signed off on bringing a felony tax evasion case against Hunter Biden that stretched back to 2014 and money from Ukraine, creating fresh intrigue as to how the president's son ultimately escaped more serious charges and got a plea deal on tax misdemeanors involving conduct years later.

"The document, a prosecution 'conclusions and recommendations' memo, escaped much notice when it was released last month by the House Ways and Means Committee along with the testimony of IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley.

"But it is taking on new significance now that Weiss has issued several carefully crafted statements to Congress appearing to contradict Shapley and a second whistleblower's account of what when in the case."

Reporting On Conservatives in the U.S. House of Representatives Demanding Further Cuts to Federal Spending:

"A group of 21 House conservatives warned House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Monday that they won't be voting for appropriations bills this year unless they reflect a real effort to trim excess federal spending, a threat that will likely complicate GOP efforts to fund the government.

"The warning shot signals another looming fight McCarthy may have to have in public with the right flank of his party. Dozens of conservatives voted against the spending deal McCarthy reached with President Biden earlier this year, which only promised modest cuts to federal outlays that fell short of a GOP-backed bill that passed the House.

"In a letter sent Monday, they said that deal won't be good enough to win their support when spending bills come up for a vote this year. That's a significant problem for McCarthy, who can only afford to lose a handful of GOP votes if he wants to pass legislation without help from Democrats."

On the New York Times' 'Character Assassination' of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas:

"So, judges are not allowed to have friends now, according to The New York Times.

"The liberal organ's character assassination of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas continued over the weekend with a hefty hit piece titled 'Where Clarence Thomas Entered an Elite Circle and Opened a Door to the Court.'

"The other 4,000 words are laced with the usual smear and innuendo we've come to expect from the left in their attempts to destroy the court's most consequential justice."

Reporting On Significant Problems with a Biden Administration Hydrogen Initiative:

"An early Biden administration initiative to push hydrogen as a 'roadmap' for America's clean energy future is now facing some big hurdles including water shortages and potential environmental hazards.

"The initiative is part of the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that President Biden signed into law during his first year in office with the stated objective of 'establishing a clean hydrogen strategy and roadmap for the United States' through such projects as regional hubs to produce hydrogen.

"However, the projects require an enormous amount of pure water for hydrogen fuel production. And nine of 33 projects set to receive federal funds are in 'highly water-stressed regions,' according to a recent report by Reuters."

On the 'Climate Mafia' and Insanity Around Climate Policies:

"One of the few advantages that come with age -- and believe me, there aren't many -- is that one can look back at all the predictions made by futurists that turned out to be wrong. I am still waiting to travel in my flying car or by jet pack. Unless I missed the news, we still have not colonized the moon or Mars. And those colonies at the bottom of the ocean have yet to materialize.

"One area where it seems that seems particularly wrought with inaccurate predictions is climate. In the 1960s we were all going to die from famine driven by overpopulation. We were heading for a new ice age in the 1970s. The oceans were going to be void of fish and the hole in the ozone layer was going to kill us all. Then we started to hear about global warming and the predictions became even more dire. When that didn't happen, the green mafia coined the phrase 'climate change' to basically blame any natural disaster or unusual weather event as yet another human-driven greed and gluttony.

"Then, in 2019, newly elected Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. predicted that the world would end in 12 years if we did not take immediate measures to address climate change. Well, we are still here four-and-a-half years later, but that hasn't stopped the green mafia from losing its collective mind and implementing crazy laws and policies in the name of environmental justice."

Reporting On a Federal Court Ruling Preliminarily Enjoining the Federal Government from Working With Social Media Companies to Censor Online Content:

"A federal judge issued a broad preliminary injunction limiting the federal government from communicating with social-media companies about online content, ruling that Biden administration officials' policing of social-media posts likely violated the First Amendment.

"In a 155-page ruling issued Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Terry Doughty of Louisiana barred White House officials and multiple federal agencies from contacting social-media companies with the purpose of suppressing political views and other speech normally protected from government censorship.

"The judge's injunction came in a lawsuit led by the Republican attorneys general of Missouri and Louisiana who alleged that the Biden administration fostered a sprawling 'federal censorship enterprise' in its effort to stamp out what it viewed as rampant disinformation circulating on social media."

On a Top Biden Immigration Adviser's Ties to Groups That Want to ‘Abolish’ ICE:

"A senior Biden administration immigration policy adviser has a history of working with organizations that have advocated to 'abolish' U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to documents from activist groups reviewed by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

"Ramzi Kassem, who joined the White House in 2022 as the senior policy advisor for immigration at the Domestic Policy Council, helped produce research reports with anti-ICE groups for the City University of New York’s Creating Law Enforcement Accountability & Responsibility (CLEAR), a group he founded in 2009. He and his organization directly collaborated with, and still list as partners, several groups that have pushed to scrap ICE altogether as well as defund police departments."

On President Joe Biden:

"When Democrats settled on Joe Biden as their candidate in 2020, they seemed to think he would be perfectly fine. He wasn't completely crazy, he seemed moderate, he was happy enough to hide away in his basement to make the campaign all about President Trump, and he had enough experience in Washington to go along the established order that the nabobs of the capital city prefer.

"But like Taylor Swift pointed out in her 2008 hit song, sometimes Mr. Perfectly Fine turns out to be a disaster. Or as one friend of mine likes to put it, everything is fine until it is not fine.

"Biden has had some bad breaks in his life, and we should acknowledge the tragedy that he has had to endure up front. But when it comes to politics, Biden has been far luckier than good."
