Quote of the Day: Patents As Critical to America's "Special Century" of Growth

Over at American Enterprise Institute (AEI), Jame Pethokoukis wrote an interesting piece "America's Forgotten Prelude to Its Special Century," in which he explains what led to the century during which America became the most prosperous, powerful and innovative nation in human history between 1870 and 1970.  "Yet America's special century," Pethokoukis notes, "did not emerge ex nihilo.  The pro-growth groundwork was laid in the less glamorous decades between 1790 and 1870."

Critically, Pethokoukis notes the importance of intellectual property (IP), and patents in particular:

From March 26 to 28 the United States Supreme Court will hear an historic 5 ½ hours of oral argument about the constitutionality of various provisions in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (i.e., ObamaCare).  But while the questions presented to the Justices could, if answered correctly, result in eliminating much of the law’s most dangerous assaults on liberty, there is a very good chance that one particularly onerous provision will totally escape notice.  As currently slated, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments on four key questions raised by ObamaCare. …
