Group Urges FCC to Act in Best Interest of Consumers and Market by Approving “AT&T Petition to Launch Proceeding Concerning the TDM-to-IP Transition”

WASHINGTON, D.C./ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA – A coalition of six free-market groups led by the Center for Individual Freedom ("CFIF") filed comments at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) today urging regulators to grant a request made by telecommunications provider AT&T  to conduct  trial runs of the move to next-generation services, otherwise known as the IP transition.

In the above-mentioned filing, the signers agree that this request adheres to their common goal of advocating for public policies at the federal, state and local levels that encourage technological development “most freely, effectively and efficiently” while promoting a light-touch regulatory approach.

“In this competitive telecommunications market, IP-based networks are thriving with more consumers choosing to move to these services based on benefits stemming from the network’s reliability and affordability” said Timothy Lee, Vice President of Legal and Public Affairs for CFIF. “In order to ensure a rapid transition to an all-IP world to keep up with consumer demand, we cannot allow for network providers, who are working to modernize networks, to be hindered by regulations that seek to deter progress.”
