ALEXANDRIA, VA – Timothy Lee, Vice President of Legal Affairs for the Center for Individual Freedom (CFIF), issued the following statement following today’s federal court ruling, the second in two months, that ObamaCare’s individual mandate violates the Constitution:
“America was founded on the Constitutional principles of limited government and individual freedom. Those principles provided the basis on which America has prospered as no other nation in human history. Today, United States District Judge Roger Vinson vindicated those fundamental principles in ruling ObamaCare’s mandate unconstitutional, following last month’s similar ruling by Judge Henry Hudson in Virginia.
“Supporters of last year’s so-called healthcare ‘reform’ legislation must finally acknowledge the legal and popular rejection of the federal government’s overreach. The last Congress and President Obama grossly violated the rights of states, the principles of the free market and the right of individuals by forcing them to engage in commercial activity as they saw fit.
“The American people have spoken. The courts have spoken. Now, Congress must act by repealing ObamaCare and replacing it with legislation that will actually address our healthcare system’s shortcomings while maintaining its status as the world’s most innovative. We at CFIF, along with millions of Americans dedicated to preserving individual freedom and the rule of law against unconstitutional bureaucratic encroachment into the lives of individuals, will continue our efforts as this litigation proceeds to the United States Supreme Court and as the repeal effort proceeds through Congress.”
