Image of the Day: Americans' Shrinking Earnings Under Joe Biden

Joe Biden tells Americans that he's helping them by building "from the bottom up and the middle out."  But the numbers don't lie, and the ugly reality is that he's only dragging us all toward the bottom.  Throughout his presidency, wage gains (green) have been consistently exceeded by inflation (blue), meaning loss in real earnings (red):

Reporting on the Rise in Consumer Prices:

"The consumer price index accelerated at a faster than expected pace in March, pushing inflation higher and likely keeping the Federal Reserve on hold with interest rates.

"The CPI, a broad measure of goods and services costs across the economy, rose 0.4% for the month, putting the 12-month inflation rate at 3.5%, or 0.3 percentage point higher than in February. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for a 0.3% gain and a 3.4% year-over-year level.

"Excluding volatile food and energy components, core CPI also accelerated 0.4% on a monthly basis while rising 3.8% from a year ago, compared to respective estimates for 0.3% and 3.7%."

On President Biden and the Latest Jobs Report:

"President Joe Biden hopes the latest jobs report will help convince voters that the economy is thriving under his policies, but a thorough look at the data released last week by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows the economy is far weaker than he says it is.

"The headline numbers of 300,000 jobs created and an unemployment rate under 4% look solid. But the growth is in part-time jobs. There are more full-time jobs but only in nonproductive sectors, such as government and government-subsidized healthcare.

"Bidenomics seems only to be working for part-time, mostly foreign workers. The rest of the population is out of luck as prices rise and borrowing costs make American dream essentials, such as a house and a car, less affordable than ever."

On the Enormous Amount of Electricity Needed to Power President Biden's Green Energy Plans:

"The passage of the Inflation Reduction Act propelled forward President Joe Biden's vision of a clean energy economy. As outlined in a 2023 guidebook, this remaking of the U.S. economy includes billions in funding for green tech manufacturing -- everything from hydrogen production to batteries to solar panels. ...

"To grow industrial activity at the scale Biden envisions, however, will require an enormous amount of electricity. China has been able to feed its green manufacturing economy by building out large amounts of coal capacity, while the U.S. has been shutting down a lot of its coal-fired capacity.

"When the plans were laid out for this ramping up of U.S. green manufacturing, it doesn't appear anyone considered that the U.S. grid would need a much larger supply of electricity. Where all that power would come from wasn't factored into the plans. As a result, projects are already having trouble finding enough power, and the green economy has just gotten underway."

On the EPA's Questionable Justification for Its New Electric Vehicle Rule:

"Before federal regulations are implemented, they must be justified with an extensive analysis of costs and effects. The new Environmental Protection Agency rule forcing a massive shift toward electric vehicles is no exception. Weighing in at 1,181 pages, it is accompanied by an additional 884 pages of 'regulatory impact analysis.'

The EPA analysis justifying this rule is not unique in its length, but it is unique in its dishonesty.

EPA claims that the rule will reduce total greenhouse gas emissions over 2027-2055 by 7.2 billion metric tons. But despite a long and disingenuous discussion of the purported adverse effects of greenhouse gas emissions, EPA admits that it 'did not...specifically quantify changes in climate impacts resulting from this rule in terms of avoided temperature change or sea-level rise.'

The reason for that failure is obvious: The answer would be embarrassing. If we apply EPA's own climate model, with assumptions that exaggerate the climate effects of reductions in GHG emissions, the rule would reduce global temperatures in 2100 by 0.0068 degrees Celsius -- an effect far too small to be detectable."

On Recent Poll Results Showing a Disproportionate Number of Democrats Condoning Cheating in Elections:

"Earlier this year, pollster Scott Rasmussen asked voters a simple question: 'Would you rather have your candidate win by cheating or lose by playing fair?'

"The answers he got back were, as he put it in a Daily Signal podcast last week, 'the most terrifying poll result I've ever seen.'

"Among all Americans, just 7% said they would want their candidate to win by cheating. As Rasmussen put it, he'd rather see that number lower, but that's not bad.

"But more than a third of the elite 1% he surveyed would condone cheating. And among those who are 'politicially obsessed' -- meaning that they talk about politics every day -- that number shot up to 69%.

"Keep in mind that this elite 1% group is overwhelmingly liberal. According to Rasmussen, these are mainly well-educated urbanites who make more than $150,000 a year and think Joe Biden is doing a great job. Nearly three-quarters identify as Democrats."

Reporting on How High Energy Costs May Drive a Revolt Against State Energy Policies:

"The Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) recently took the unusual step of voting to pull back on the state's renewable energy targets, over concerns they are too costly and produce few benefits.

Most states are moving in the other direction, following California's lead, but there are signs of some hesitation as the real costs of these policies are realized.

California has pursued some of the most aggressive renewable energy policies in the U.S. Since 2008, wind and solar in California went from 3% of the state's electricity generation mix to 25.7% last year. and it pays the third highest electricity rates in the county behind Hawaii and Rhode Island.

Meanwhile, the carbon intensity, a measure of carbon dioxide emissions per kilowatt hour generated, has remained unchanged since at least 2011. As more states see their electricity rates continue to rise with little in the way of benefits, Arizona may turn out to be an energy trendsetter. But the political momentum behind net-zero targets is preventing any full retreats."

On President Biden's Announcement That He Wants to Nominate an Illegal Immigrant to Serve on the U.S. Supreme Court:

"President Joe Biden on Monday reiterated his commitment to increasing the diversity of the United States Supreme Court.

"'If given the opportunity to nominate another justice to our nation's highest court, or if I change my mind about expanding the court, my next nominee will be the first illegal immigrant ever nominated to the United States Supreme Court,' Biden told reporters outside the White House, in a rare back-and-forth with the media. 'Sorry. I meant to say undocumented. The next Supreme Court justice on my watch will be an undocumented immigrant of color. Oops.'"

On the American Public's Lack of Trust In the News Media:

"Americans do not trust several major U.S. institutions, including the national news media.

The recently released Center Square Voters' Voice poll found that 43% of Americans say the media is trustworthy, compared with 54% who said it is not trustworthy.

Younger people were more likely to trust the media, with 47% of those ages 18-34 saying they trust it and 46% saying the opposite.

The numbers steadily worsen as likely voters get older, with 41% of likely voters 65-years-old and older saying they trust the media, compared to 57% who do not."

On the Record Tax Hikes in President Biden's Budget:

"President Biden has released another historic budget, proposing record high tax increases to fund massive increases in spending. While he talks about fiscal responsibility, the President is calling for more spending and higher taxes than any other in our history.

"Under his budget, the total amount of taxes Americans pay every year would nearly double, Increasing from $4.4 trillion in 2023 to $8.6 trillion in 2034, a 95% increase. At the same time, spending would soar, increasing from $6.1 trillion in 2023 to $10.3 trillion in 2034, an increase of 70%.

"The President is proposing $4.9 trillion in tax increases, the largest tax increase ever proposed. Under his budget, taxes as a share of the economy would average 19.7% of GDP, well above the 50-year average of 17.3%. Over the next ten years, taxes would increase to the highest extended levels in our nation's history, climbing above 20% of GDP four years in a row, a level reached only once before in World War II."
