Image of the Day: Americans' Shrinking Earnings Under Joe Biden

Joe Biden tells Americans that he's helping them by building "from the bottom up and the middle out."  But the numbers don't lie, and the ugly reality is that he's only dragging us all toward the bottom.  Throughout his presidency, wage gains (green) have been consistently exceeded by inflation (blue), meaning loss in real earnings (red):

On President Biden and the Cost of Everyday Food Items:

"Joe Biden is up to his usual tricks, spinning false narratives and blaming others for the damage done by his wrong-headed policies.

"People are angry that the cost of everyday food items like potato chips (up 29 percent) and ice cream (up 20 percent) have gone through the roof since Biden took office. The president's response? Accusing food companies of price gouging, which, as I show below, is simply not true.

"Food prices, as measured by the Consumer Price Index, are up about 21 percent since Joe Biden became president; in 2022, Americans spent 11.2 percent of their disposable income on food, the most in 30 years. The cost of feeding a family, especially for low-income Americans, is a struggle -- which could explain why in a recent poll more than two-thirds of voters with incomes below $50,000 disapproved of Biden's handling of the economy.

"The White House is panicked that high food prices will jeopardize Biden's reelection (it's still the economy, stupid), so they've launched a new pitch."

On a Secret Biden Administration Program that Has Flown Hundreds of Thousands of Illegal Immigrants from Latin America to 43 U.S. Cities:

"Efforts by open-border Democrats to blame the growing big-city migrant crisis on Texas and its program of busing illegal immigrants north are being upstaged by a new investigation showing that President Joe Biden has secretly flown hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants from Latin American airports to 43 U.S. cities.

The unusual program, kept from the public, involved at least 320,000 illegal immigrants the administration admits are 'inadmissible' immigrants, far more than previously reported.

Despite facing a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit from the Center for Immigration Studies, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection has refused to identify the 43 airports it is dumping immigrants at after direct flights from Latin America."

Reporting on the National Debt:

"The debt load of the U.S. is growing at a quicker clip in recent months, increasing about $1 trillion nearly every 100 days.

The nation's debt permanently crossed over to $34 trillion on Jan. 4, after briefly crossing the mark on Dec. 29, according to data from the U.S. Department of the Treasury. It reached $33 trillion on Sept. 15, 2023, and $32 trillion on June 15, 2023, hitting this accelerated pace. Before that, the $1 trillion move higher from $31 trillion took about eight months.

U.S. debt, which is the amount of money the federal government borrows to cover operating expenses, now stands at nearly $34.4 trillion, as of Wednesday. Bank of America investment strategist Michael Hartnett believes the 100-day pattern will remain intact with the move from $34 trillion to $35 trillion."

On Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's Legacy:

"Mitch McConnell changed the direction of the world. He stopped the destruction of the Republican Party by opposing, delaying and weakening and ultimately defeating the drive for 'campaign finance reform' that would have left union bosses as the sole power in America. Senator McConnell herorically sculpted the present Supreme Court and saved the second amendment, religious liberty and free speech. An amazing and lasting legacy."

On Gallup's Latest Poll Showing Immigration Being Viewed by Americans as the Most Important Problem:

"Significantly more Americans name immigration as the most important problem facing the U.S. (28%) than did a month ago (20%). Immigration has now passed the government as the most often cited problem, after the two issues tied for the top position the past two months. The government ranked first each month from January through November 2023.

"In the latest poll, 20% of Americans name the government as the most important problem, followed by the economy (12%) and inflation (11%). Immigration is the only issue that has shown meaningful change in the past month."

On the Impact of Illegal Border Crossers and Their Crimes:

"A nursing student bludgeoned to death near a tranquil Georgia college campus. A developmentally disabled person raped in Boston. A mother and son killed in a head-on crash in Colorado. New York's finest assaulted in the heralded Times Square.

"The roll-call of victims violated by Joe Biden's border policies is rising as fast as the hotel and welfare tabs for sanctuary cities, thrusting an American society that long revered its immigrant heritage into a crisis of epic proportions driven by more than 8 million illegal border crossers since the 46th president took office.

"That total surpasses the individual populations of more than half the republic's states. And the impact by state and city becomes more staggering by the day."

On President Biden's Student Loan Bailout:

"'The Supreme Court blocked it. They blocked it. But that didn't stop me.'

"Those aren't the words of some banana republic strongman like Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro or Russia's Vladimir Putin. Those are the words of President Joe Biden speaking from a library in Culver City, California, where he announced the transfer of $1.2 billion in wealth from taxpayers to a handpicked set of college graduates.

"Specifically, Biden canceled the debts of more than 150,000 college graduates who borrowed less than $12,000 to pay for their degrees. Each of the bailout recipients had been enrolled in the Department of Education's Saving on a Valuable Education plan, which enabled borrowers to lower or even eliminate their monthly student debt payments based on their current household income. Biden just chose to accelerate the implementation of the plan in time for this year's election.

"This $1.2 billion boondoggle is far less than the $400 billion that Biden initially tried to pay his constituents but was shot down by the Supreme Court. Undaunted, Biden is now back, again testing the outer limits of executive authority, all for the transparent purpose of delivering cash to those who are most likely to vote for him."

On President Biden's Brother Changing His Story to Congressional Investigators:

"James Biden altered his story during a closed-door interview with lawmakers on Wednesday after congressional investigators presented him with evidence directly contradicting his claims, according to a source familiar with the interview.

"Joe Biden's younger brother, in closed-door testimony to the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees, initially told his interviewers that he was not part of a business deal involving Hunter Biden and several of his associates, according to a source familiar with the interview. However, after investigators showed him an agreement that featured his signature alongside those of Hunter Biden and his business partners, James Biden then told legislators that he did not remember signing the agreement.

"The deal in question was a proposed joint venture involving an entity known as SinoHawk and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)-tied CEFC China Energy Limited energy firm, according to a source familiar with the interview."

On President Biden and Israel's War Against Hamas:

"The United States has vetoed one United Nations resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, but President Joe Biden is reportedly proposing a separate ceasefire resolution that would also call on Israel to abandon its plan to crush the remnants of Hamas in the city of Rafah.

"He should proceed no further in this. Israel has come too far and made too much progress in the laudable goal of dismantling Hamas to stop now. Before Hamas massacred innocent Israelis on Oct. 7, there were 24 Hamas regional battalions in Gaza. These have been reduced to six, and they are in Rafah. The city must be taken. Hamas must not be allowed to survive.

"War is horrific, and this Israel campaign against Hamas in Gaza has been no exception. But as brutal as armed conflict is, Israel has gone to extreme efforts to minimize civilian casualties. It has done a remarkably good job. Hamas claims that 29,000 Gazans have died since Israel began its counterattack following the terrorist invasion. Israel says 12,000 of those deaths are Hamas fighters. If one takes both sides' numbers as accurate (even though we know Hamas has included deaths that are inflicted by itself or outright false), that would be near a historic low in the ratio of combatants killed to civilians. According to the United Nations, the average rate for wars is about nine noncombatants killed for every one combatant."

On the Biden Administration's Plan to Relax Regulations Designed to Prop Up Electric Vehicles:

"When President Joe Biden issued regulations that he and his side of the political aisle hoped would eventually lead to electric vehicles replacing automobiles that burn gasoline and diesel fuel, it was regarded as a glorious moment. The backtracking, however, has begun, a welcome development we didn't believe was possible from the man who once irresponsibly promised 'to end fossil fuel.'

"Unfortunately, it's being done for the wrong reasons.

"The New York Times reported over the weekend that the 'administration intends to relax elements of one of its most ambitious strategies to combat climate change, limits on tailpipe emissions that are designed to get Americans to switch from gas-powered cars to electric vewhicles.' The Times calls it a 'concession to automakers and labor unions.' ...

"While there is plenty of conjecture and speculation, there is no science that says replacing fossil-fuel powered vehicles with EVs will have a salutary effect on the climate. The EV manufacturing chain is one long line of carbon-dioxide emissions. From the extraction of raw materials using equipment that burns fossil fuels, to the assembly process, to the charging, operating, and then eventual disposal of EVs, their environmental impact is far from benign. The truth is they are as dirty, if not more so, than conventional automobiles."
