So-Called "Railway Safety Act" Constitutes a Political Handout to Big Labor That Does Nothing to Improve Safety At All

America as we know it was built largely upon and because of our rail industry, and today it remains a pillar of our economy.

Unfortunately, a destructive proposal before Congress misleadingly named the "Railway Safety Act" (RSA), part of broader surface transportation reauthorization, threatens great harm to our railroads.

Simply put, the bill has nothing to do with improving safety, but has a lot to do with advancing the political agenda of Big Labor.  At a moment when inflation burdens American families and fragile supply chains remain vulnerable to disruption, the last thing our economy or rail sector need is another costly federal mandate imposed upon one of the nation’s most important transportation sectors.

Bill Will Restore Congressional Accountability in Federal Healthcare Policymaking

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean (R-FL) introduced H.R. 8293, the Abolish the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) Act. In response, Center for Individual Freedom (CFIF) President Jeffrey Mazzella released the following statement urging broad support for and swift passage of the legislation:

“CMMI, a creation of the Affordable Care Act, has become a poster child for bureaucratic inefficiency and overreach. Over the past 15 years, instead of saving federal taxpayers’ money, CMMI has proven to be a multi-billion-dollar taxpayer liability that any impartial observer would agree has failed miserably to reduce costs and improve care.

“Furthermore, the more CMMI fails, the bolder it becomes in exceeding its narrow mandate with little to no accountability. Simply put, decisions affecting how care is delivered and paid for across the country should not be driven by unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats operating outside of the normal legislative process.

“H.R. 8293 represents an important step toward restoring Congress’s central role in shaping federal healthcare policy and ensuring that major structural changes receive the scrutiny they deserve. CFIF thanks Representative Bean for his leadership, urges all members of Congress to support this important legislation, and urges its quick passage.”
