The Florida Department of Health is considering a proposed rule change to eliminate state vaccine requirements for school-age children.  The rule would eliminate the vaccination requirement for chickenpox, hepatitis B, Haemophilus influenzae type B and the pneumococcal disease, as well as allow for opting out of other routine vaccines for "moral and ethical beliefs."

The Center for Individual Freedom (CFIF) commissioned a statewide survey of likely Florida voters to measure voter sentiment about the proposed rule and attitudes about vaccines and the policies surrounding them generally.  

Florida voters oppose the Department of Health's proposed rule by a more than two to one margin (58% to 28%), and opposition grows to 63% once voters hear the arguments from both sides of the issue. In addition, Florida likely voters continue to find common ground on access, with 81% saying insurance should still be required to cover vaccines that people want, including vaccines the federal government recently pulled from its recommended list. 

The survey of 607 likely general election voters in Florida was conducted by national polling firm Cygnal from September 1-3, 2026, with a margin of error of ±3.98%.
