Last month, President Trump signed an executive order changing the federal vaccine recommendation schedule, rolling back certain childhood vaccines and splitting the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine into three separate shots, among other policy recommendations and changes.

The Center for Individual Freedom (CFIF) commissioned a nationwide survey of likely 2026 voters to measure voter sentiment about the executive order and attitudes about vaccines and the policies surrounding them generally.  

Voters nationwide oppose (59%) the executive order, expressing that they want doctors and families to make immunization decisions for children, not the federal government. Voter opinions are just as clear that people should continue to have access to vaccines if they want them, with 87% saying insurance should still cover the six vaccines removed from the recommended list under the executive order. Additionally, strong support (77%) remains for requiring standard childhood vaccines for public schools.

The survey of 1,500 likely 2026 general election voters was conducted by national polling firm Cygnal from September 1-3, 2026. It has a margin of error of ±2.53%. The survey was weighted to a likely 2026 general election voter audience.
