So-Called "Railway Safety Act" Constitutes a Political Handout to Big Labor That Does Nothing to Improve Safety At All

America as we know it was built largely upon and because of our rail industry, and today it remains a pillar of our economy.

Unfortunately, a destructive proposal before Congress misleadingly named the "Railway Safety Act" (RSA), part of broader surface transportation reauthorization, threatens great harm to our railroads.

Simply put, the bill has nothing to do with improving safety, but has a lot to do with advancing the political agenda of Big Labor.  At a moment when inflation burdens American families and fragile supply chains remain vulnerable to disruption, the last thing our economy or rail sector need is another costly federal mandate imposed upon one of the nation’s most important transportation sectors.

CFIF Statement on Federal Court Decision Against Health Care Mandate Print
Monday, December 13 2010

Washington, D.C. –The Center for Individual Freedom and its President, Jeffrey Mazzella, responded today to U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson’s ruling striking down the federal government’s individual mandate that everyone must buy health insurance.

“Judge Henry Hudson’s ruling confirms what an overwhelming majority of Americans have believed all along:  That the health care reform law passed by Congress and signed by the president is a direct assault on free-market principles and state's rights enshrined in our nation's constitution. This is one in a series of legal judgments rendered against such a reckless legislative overreach, and indicates that as perilous as this moment is for the law, its future will ideally meet an even more certain judgment of being overturned.

“In light of today’s ruling, CFIF calls on the Obama Administration to immediately cease implementation of the entire health care law until its constitutionality is fully resolved by the courts.  If the Administration refuses to act, Congress should act without delay to force the Administration’s hand against the law’s implementation.”

CFIF is a non-profit organization with the mission to protect and defend individual freedoms and individual rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.  It seeks to focus public, legislative and judicial attention on the rule of law as embodied in the federal and state constitutions.
