Washington Post Poll: Bush Approval Now Equals Obama’s
Posted by Print

Well, this will come as unwelcome news in the Obama White House.  Their “Blame Bush” raison detre never held merit intellectually.  Even if it did, however, someone willing to blame Bush for Obama’s failures at this point would by logic have to blame Clinton for Bush’s failures.  Now, a new poll from The Washington Post and ABC News suggests that it’s no longer a workable political strategy regardless of logic.  Specifically, almost as many people now approve of Bush’s performance as disapprove, and he now equals Obama:

The new poll found 47 percent saying they approve and 50 percent saying they disapprove. Among registered voters, his approval rating today is equal to President Obama’s, at 47 percent, according to the latest Post-ABC surveys.”

So “Blame Bush” is running on fumes, and exploiting the Newtown victims’ parents as political props failed him.  To which ploy will Obama stoop next?

Supreme Court Unfavorability Rises To All-Time Record in Another Poll
Posted by Print

When one tries too hard to be popular, the result is usually less popularity.  That appears no less true when it comes to the Supreme Court.

Last week, we highlighted how public approval of the Supreme Court instantly plummeted following last month’s ObamaCare decision.  One week prior to the Court’s decision, twice as many people – 36% to 17% – believed that the Court was doing a “good” or “excellent” job as opposed to a “poor” job.  In the immediate aftermath of that decision, almost as many said that the Court was doing a “poor” job as a “good” or “excellent” job.  Additionally, over twice as many Americans – 56% to 27% – now believe that the justices pursue political agendas as opposed to maintaining impartiality.

As reported by The Hill, a poll this week confirms that backlash:

Negative opinions of the Supreme Court jumped in the wake of its ruling on the constitutionality of the 2010 health care law, according to a new Pew Research Center poll released on Thursday that shows the percentage who have an unfavorable opinion of the Court is higher than at any point since Pew began tracking it in 1985.”

And that’s not just among Republicans.  According to the poll, disapproval among independents increased while approval remained unchanged.  That’s not good news for Barack Obama, and it certainly doesn’t reflect well on Chief Justice John Roberts’s apparent attempt to sacrifice judicial prudence at the altar of popularity.

Supreme Court: The Most Conservative Part of Government Receives the Highest Public Approval
Posted by Print

It’s easy to attribute Obama’s poor approval ratings to generic anti-government sentiment and/or ongoing economic difficulty, citing Congress’s low approval as supporting evidence.  But a recent Rasmussen poll shows something interesting.  Namely, that the most conservative portion of our federal government receives the highest approval ratings from the public.  In fact, the number of respondents stating that the Supreme Court is doing a “good” or “excellent” job (35%) is approximately double the number who rate its performance as poor (18%).

Indeed, by a 31% to 26% margin, respondents believe the Supreme Court is too liberal, not too conservative.  Interesting insight for elected officials, and especially candidates, to ponder.
